About Physics Judo...

Physics tuition and Combined Science (Physics/Chemistry) tuition are the 2 aspects I specialise in, and specialists definitely bring a whole list of benefits to the student as compared to generalists, or tutors who teach multiple subjects.

For the past 9 years, I have been teaching Physics tuition and Combined Science tuition in Singapore, and have come up with numerous methods as a Physics tutor and Combined Science tutor, to help my students. For the first 5 years as a part time and then full time Physics tutor and Combined Science tutor, I have amassed a huge variety of materials and have customised many of them to suit my students' needs, in addition to tailoring conceptual explanation that all students find easy to digest and understand! In the next 3 years, with more and more students looking for Physics tuition and Combined Science tuition, I decided that giving group tuition would be best.

That was when Physics Judo, a specialist centre for Physics tuition and Combined Science tuition, was born!

With the numerous new entrants to the Singapore Physics tuition and Combined Science tuition scene in recent years, competition has never been more intense. I however welcome the challenge in my stride, and will continually strive to improve my methodology and resources to stay ahead.

The Norm

What does your physics teacher do? Does your combined science tutor tell you not to ask too much? Read the questions and write the answers, leaving you confused at how to get there? Or start with boring explanations, then go through the question list, then hope you are all set for exams?

What I do

I tell stories. Yes, stories. Stories about the universe, about how things work, and the wonderful natural environment that is all around us. Does that help in understanding physics? Come and look at the faces of my students during my lessons!

Knowledge + materials

With more than 9 years of teaching physics, combined science and math, and various levels of practice and resources, you are assured of high quality materials all the time. Tiered practices means that no student is left out.

During my years, I've had the pleasure of coaching and helping students from many different schools:

 Just one thing...

From my experience, many of these students simply needed ONE ingredient to do well: Guidance. With proper guidance and effort from their part, their learning process is greatly accelerated. No matter what school they are from, if they are willing to work hard, they will do reasonably well in the O level examination, or their respective school Integrated Programme examination.

Is it worth spending money on tuition?

Definitely. Singapore's education system is very rigorous and competitive. School teachers are facing an uphill task as their class size gets larger, which means students get even less attention from their teachers. The poor school teachers have to manage a large class size of 30+ students, trying their best to put forth a concept to many students of differing abilities and calibre, while still maintaining discipline. Moreover, students simply learn different subjects at different speeds and in a different manner. Trying to force a standardised approach on each and every student is just going to widen the gap between those who understand, and those who don't.

Students might then fall behind, lose interest in the subject and start performing badly. The effects are cumulative! This is where physics and combined science tuition, in a customised 1-1 setting, come in. A competent tutor will ensure that the students are well versed in what they need to know, and to help them grasp concepts and understand the tips and tricks of answering exam style questions. I have personally seen so many cases of students who take it easy in Secondary 3 and let their misconceptions build up. By the time they come in for tuition in Secondary 4, they have already fallen so far behind that just to catch up is a colossal task...

Here's an article for you to read up on, detailing the need for tuition in Singapore. It was written by a mother in Singapore, who has 2 children. Of course, the points highlighted in the article are also very applicable to secondary school and JC students.

http://kentridgecommon.com/why-tuition-is-necessary-in-primary-school/

Tuition is never meant to replace school lessons.

Physics and Combined Science tuition, in the rigorous education scene of Singapore, serves to supplement what students learn in school. As such, the purpose of Physics Judo, as a small-group Focus Class, is to help students grow and develop their thinking process and logical problem solving skills. We build upon the scaffolding provided by school teachers, by providing students with the correct building materials, to build a strong and solid foundation.

All the best to our aspiring students!
